Thought I might create a space to document some of the commercial & professional work, projects and interesting places I have been involved with over the years. Unfortunately, photos are always last things on my mind when stuck into a large fieldwork project, so the record is slightly more sparse than I would like.
2022 to Present
Specialist Technical Officer for Embedded Systems, Industrial Automation & IoT: University of Edinburgh: The School of Engineering
Remote Labs
The remote labs project aims to deliver physical engineering teaching experiments to students through an online portal. My role in the team is the development of the electronics & firmware to run each experiment.
Single Tube Condenser
Single tube condenser is an experiment designed to teach thermodynamics of evaporating fluids. It presented a unique challenge to bring online, as it involves a powerful electric heater that has the potential to be dangerous if a fault condition occurs. It also involces heating flammable and volatile solvents. For this reason, we had to engineer the system to be fail-safe, as well as consider human factors in the set up and operation.

Practable Power Supply Hat
This power supply is designed to power individual experiments, and sits ontop of a Single Board Computer (raspberry pi style). It provides power to the SBC, the experiment and has features that allow us to track the power used by both the experiment and computer running the experiment. We also built in some tools that will allow us to remotely hard reset the computer if it becomes unresponsive.
